2009 Ultimate Mock Draft
| Team | Player | Position | School | Details | |
Detroit Lions | Matthew Stafford | QB | Georgia | Stafford still looks like the No. 1 pick. Stafford had a good workout with the Lions too. Not sure how you can pay a rookie $35 million in guaranteed money to hold a clip board in the first part of the season, but that is what the top pick gets.
St Louis Rams | Jason Smith | OT | Baylor | Rams cut OT Orlando Pace earlier this year so Smith would be the likely pick here.
Kansas City Chiefs | Aaron Curry | OLB | Wake Forest | Curry may be the most talented player in the Draft. Solid College career and even better Combine and Pro Day Workout.
Seattle Seahawks | Mark Sanchez | QB | USC | The question for the Seahawks is do they draft their Quarterback of the future or their Left Tackle of the future. It looks more and more like they will take Mark Sanchez. WR looked like a need as well, but they signed T.J. ”Championship” Houshmanzada.
Cleveland Browns | Michael Crabtree | WR | Texas Tech | I have Crabtree moving up the board because it sounds like Braylon Edwards will be traded. Eric Mangini may also be gun-shy about taking a DE this high after the Vernon Gholston debacle with the Jets.
Cincinnati Bengals | Andre Smith | OT | Alabama | Andre Smith has had an awful couple of months: from his Bowl game suspension to going AWOL at the NFL Combine to his 40 yard dash. Given all that, the Bengals are desperate for a dominant Left Tackle and Marvin Lewis probably thinks he can coach him up.
Oakland Raiders | Eugene Monroe | OT | Virginia | Every Mock Draft is contractually obligated to tell you that Al Davis likes speedy receivers, but the Raiders need help on the offensive line.
Jacksonville Jaguars | B.J. Raji | DT | Boston College | The Jags missed Marcus Stroud last year so B.J. Raji would be a good pick here. Jags could also use a receiver and could get one if they trade the pick.
Green Bay Packers | Aaron Maybin | DE/OLB | Penn State | Packers will probably move Maybin to Outside Linebacker to rush the Quarterback.
San Francisco 49ers | Everette Brown | DE | FSU | Everette Brown or Brian Orakpo could go here. I will give the edge to Everette Brown due to his consistency.
Buffalo Bills | Brian Orakpo | DE | Texas | Latest word is that Buffalo is shopping DE Chris Kelsay so DE selection is becoming more likely. Buffalo will take a hard look at Michael Oher with the Jason Peters trade. Buffalo basically takes the best available DE. Orakpo falls with poor showing of recent Longhorns (Benson, Huff, Sweed).
Denver Broncos | Tyson Jackson | DE | LSU | Would fit nicely into the Broncos 3-4 Defense, and they need all the help they can get because they won't be scoring as many points.
Washington Redskins | Robert Ayers | DE | Tennessee | Redskins would like to make a splash with Mark Sanchez, and they could take Michael Oher, but if they stay with 13th pick they could take Ayers.
New Orleans Saints | Malcolm Jenkins | CB | Ohio State | Saints also have needs at OLB and RB, but the greatest need is at Cornerback and Malcolm Jenkins is the best CB in a very thin Cornerback class.
Houston Texans | Brian Cushing | OLB | USC | Texans would like to find a Defensive End to book-end with DE Mario Williams. Texans need to improve Defense, but a solid OLB like Brian Cushing would help.
San Diego Chargers | Michael Oher | OT | Mississippi | Oher could definitely go earlier than 16, but the Chargers would be in luck to get Oher here.
NY Jets | Josh Freeman | QB | Kansas State | Jets have locked on to Freeman. They might have to trade up to get him.
Denver Broncos | Rey Maualuga | LB | USC | Gets this pick from the Bears courtesy of Jay Cutler. Broncos need help at all levels of their defense. What is the over/under on the number of Jay Cutler mentions?
Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Jerry Peria | DT | Mississippi | New Tampa Bay Head Coach Raheem Morris knows that the front seven of the Defense needs help.
Detroit Lions | Eben Britton | OT | Arizona | Teams are always looking for starting Offensive Tackles at this point in the draft and the Lions need help on both sides of the Offensive and Defensive Lines.
Philadelphia Eagles | Knowshon Moreno | RB | Georgia | Michael Westbrook isn’t getting any younger and the Eagles need a Running Back to share the load with Westbrook. Running Backs keep going later and later every year.
Minnesota Vikings | Jeremy Maclin | WR | Missouri | Maclin is a tough one to predict because if he falls past the Raiders and Jaguars, I don't see him coming off the board until the Eagles or Vikings pick.
New England Patriots | Clay Matthews | OLB | USC | Mike Vrabel was traded to KC and the Patriots need to pressure the Quarterback.
Atlanta Falcons | Connor Barwin | LB | Cincinnati | The Falcons need a Linebacker.
Miami Dolphins | Vontae Davis | CB | Illinois | Davis did not have an impressive Combine, but you can’t teach speed. Head Coach Tony Sporano should be able to coach him up.
Baltimore Ravens | Hakeem Nicks | WR | North Carolina | Nicks seems to catch anything that is near him. Some scouts have questioned his weight gain after a hamstring injury, but Nicks was a solid performer every year at UNC.
Indianapolis Colts | James Laurinaitis | LB | Ohio State | The Colts need multiple Linebackers in this year’s draft. Choosing a Wide Receiver will also be a priority.
Buffalo Bills | Brandon Pettigrew | TE | Oklahoma St | Hard to believe that Pettigrew would fall to the Bills at 28, but its possible. Would not be surprised to see a team trade up to get him.
NY Giants | Kenny Britt | WR | Connecticut | I will pencil in Kenny Britt here until a trade happens with Braylon Edwards. Scouts like Britt's size. 6'3" 220 will get you over a lot of Cornerbacks in the NFL.
Tennessee Titans | Darrius Heyward-Bey | WR | Maryland | Lots of good Receivers should still be available. Percy Harvin is also an option.
Arizona Cardinals | Beanie Wells | RB | Ohio State | If the Cardinals take Wells, they could release Edgerrin James the next day.
Pittsburgh Steelers | Percy Harvin | WR | Florida | Steelers could use some help on the Offensive Line but Percy Harvin is an all around athlete they can plug into kick returns and even the Wildcat formation.
